Launched 1979, in Queensland. The November 1979 edition of Modern Boating and Seacraft contains an article on bare-boating in the Whitsundays and another entitled "Airlie or Bust" (ahem!) which covers the Whitsunday Fun Race of that year. Tiogair features prominently in both articles and in the latter is adorned with entrants in the Miss Figurehead competition which is a feature of the Fun Race. The boat isn't named in the articles (presumably to preserve the modesty of the young ladies) but in one photo you can just make out the name Tiogair (beneath a leaping tiger) on a billowing spinnaker. In 1979 she had a red hull and cream/white deck. It seems likely that the boat may have been known as "Tiogair RANSA", which was engraved on name plates found aboard. Tiogair means "of tiger" gaelic. RANSA is an acronym for the Royal Australian Navy Sailing Association. There was a photo, of an un-named, red-hulled boat in the Jim Connell's photo album, captioned "Red Manitou at Shute Harbour previously owned by P. Mitchell". This is the same boat as in the Modern Boating articles. The article on the Fun Race doesn't say how Tiogair or her figureheads performed, but concludes with .....
"The final frothing case of vintage one-upmanship went to the Miss Figurehead winner. Her prize was the T-shirt presented by Lieutenant Mick Stores, RAN, who happened to be wearing it at the time. He solemnly removed it and handed it to her. Amid lusty cheers from the crowd, she, with equal solemnity, removed hers and presented it to him. Neither was available for further comment."*
